Australian Cattle Dogs excel in all performance sports

We try to give our dogs a chance to try them all and then we concentrate on the ones that the suit the individual dog

To date we have found that most of our dogs prefer Tracking, Herding & Agility

    TRACKING

There's nothing like spending the weekend in the bush in the dead of winter with good friends, a blazing camp fire, warm sox . . . and your dogs by your side.

Four times each year we brave the winter frosts to try our luck at the local tracking trials.  While most are still snuggled in their warm beds, we rise before daybreak and prepare for the day ahead.

Tracking is not a sport for everyone.  The long hours spent setting out tracks, stewarding them and then handling your dog is hard work.  But the rush of passing definitely outweighs anything else, and the memory of being half frozen soon fades.

      HERDING

Our dogs really enjoy doing what they were bred for, and although Cattle Dogs are a bit hard on sheep - if exposed to them early enough they soon learn to take it easy.

Once again its a top weekend, a group of people from many different walks of life - sharing an interest in the sport and their love of dogs.

All ANKC working dogs (Group 5) are eligible to herd, as to are any obvious working dog crossbreeds.

Several clinics are held during the year at Uralla Showground, and Clarence District Kennel Club holds a herding trial there in October.

     AGILITY

Agility is a fun sport that gets you out and about in the sunshine & fresh air with your dog.

All dogs can compete, pure breeds and crossbreeds - provided they are over 18months of age, and handlers from teenagers to seniors. Both dog & handler must be members of the Canine Control of your state.

Its the best way to get some exercise while still having fun.

Why do our cattle dogs love agility?  . .  .  its fast,  mentally challenging,  fast,  fun and . . . . .  fast.

Both clubs in Grafton train Agility, CDKC every Wednesday night and GDOC on Sundays.

I instruct at Clarence (CDKC) on a rotating roster system.
